The primary focus of this committee is to review, discuss, disseminate and consider information concerning current trends in the areas of mortgage and other secured real estate financing, including matters presented by the members of this committee. The committee usually meets 2 times each year for such purpose and the meetings include a review and discussion of pending litigation, new case law, pending legislation, and other matters relating to real estate financing, including bankruptcy, environmental, insurance, and landlord/tenant issues. In an effort to create an interactive and interesting meeting, a topic is preselected for a presentation by a real estate professional. Members are asked to review and comment on these items, to propose and participate in the drafting of legislation and to occasionally participate in the preparation and filing of amicus briefs on matters relating to mortgages, land contracts, and other security devices. In addition, members are requested to speak at various State Bar functions and prepare articles for the Michigan Real Property Review. The Committee is open to anyone with an interest in this area.
