Residential Transactions
Leslee M. Lewis Anthony J. Viviani Gregg A. Nathanson The Residential Transactions Committee plays an active, influential role in the Real Property Law Section and State Bar of Michigan activities. The Committee takes pride in presenting a broad range of interesting and challenging opportunities for professional growth and development. Meetings Committee meetings feature prominent speakers on "hot topics" affecting residential transactions. The committee has had speakers such as Michael McClory, director of Special Projects, Wayne County Probate Court, delivered an exciting and informative talk on Michigan's Estate and Protected Individuals Code (EPIC) and its impact on residential transactions. Committee meetings generally include a detailed agenda together with a lively discussion of recent federal and state statutes, regulations, and cases which are important to attorneys handling residential transactions. Publications The Committee has an outstanding track record in the area of publications. Several Committee members researched and wrote chapters for the Institute of Continuing Legal Education book entitled Michigan Residential Real Estate Transactions, published in 2000. Great opportunities for your professional advancement exist within our Committee. The Committee is always seeking volunteers to write an article for publication in the Michigan Real Property Review. Legislation Committee members are encouraged to review and comment upon select bills working their way through the Michigan House of Representatives and Senate. The Committee is in the process of analyzing a number of new bills that may impact residential transactions. Committee members are also encouraged to monitor and report upon pertinent new cases affecting residential transaction practice. Seminars Committee members take an active role in participating in Real Property Law Section and Institute of Continuing Legal Education seminars. Committee members participate in one or more seminars annually to help educate fellow lawyers on a wide variety of issues pertaining to residential transactions. Pro Bono Activities The Committee encourages its members to participate in pro bono activities. A number of Committee members are active in Habitat for Humanity of Michigan throughout the State. Other members have served on the Real Property Law Section Pro Bono Committee and have assisted in preparing pamphlets over the last few years on purchase and sale of a home, homeowner liability, and insurance, and, most recently, delinquent property taxes. Each of these pamphlets is distributed statewide, in an effort to help educate Michigan residents on matters of real estate law important to them. |
