Council members present: Stannette Amy (student representative), Donna Budnick (see below), Ron Douglas, Sheila Hackett Gaskell (secretary-treasurer), Mike Murray, Tom Myers, Kathie Scotta, Thomas Silvia (chair-elect).
The meeting was called to order by Thomas Silvia at 9:30 a.m.
The Council voted unanimously to replace James Schuster, who has resigned from the Council, with Donna Budnick in order to have a quorum for this meeting.
Kathie Scotta delivered the Chair's Report submitted to the State Bar of Michigan for Jacqueline Hand, who is serving as a professor in England for the next year.
Sheila Gaskell gave the Treasurer's Report. The American Indian Law Section has $6598.00 in its account. Of that, $250.00 is earmarked for the Access to Justice fund. In addition, there will be deductions for the Annual Program.
This year's Tecumseh Peace Keeping Awards were given to Justice Michael F. Cavanagh and Judge Michael Petoskey for their long-standing leadership and superior efforts to protect and advance American Indian legal and cultural rights.

Thomas Silvia asked the Council to pick up letterhead and use it for all Section business.
Kathie Scotta, at the request of Jacqueline Hand, presented the Thomas Silvia with the Section gavel.
Thomas Silvia proposed that the Council adopt a logo presented at the meeting. The Council agreed to consider the logo over the next year and vote on its adoption or rejection at the next Annual Meeting.
The Council unanimously agreed to contribute $500 to the Access to Justice fund.
Thomas Silvia proposed that the Section co-sponsor a program with the Alternative Dispute Resolution section. Specifically, he would like to incorporate a portion about peacemaker courts into a jointly sponsored program. The Council agreed to consider this at the next meeting.
The meeting concluded at 10:30 AM. in anticipation of the Section's program on Repatriation.
