Meeting Minutes

12:30 p.m. on February 9, 2001 at the offices of Honigman Miller Schwartz & Cohn, Detroit, Michigan.
In attendance: M. Boonstra, H. Iwrey, R. Kalisher, S. Berenbaum, D. Chardevoyne and J. DeLine.
Approval of Minutes
The Minutes for the January 16, 2001 Council Meeting were incomplete and will be approved at the next meeting.
Treasurer’s Report
R. Kalisher reported that the net Section balance as of December 31, 2000 is $24,036.65.
Committee Reports
- Franchise Committee
R. Kalisher reported that the rebuttal period for comments to the FTC rule revisions ended on January 31, 2001.
- Newsletter Committee
J. DeLine reported that the deadline for submission of articles for the next newsletter is February 23, 2001 and that the newsletter will be sent to the State Bar for distribution the following week. H. Iwrey, M. Boonstra, and D. Chardevoyne offered to contribute articles for the newsletter.
- Legislative Committee
M. Boonstra reported on various House and Senate bills regarding home solicitation sales, amending MCL §445.11 et seq.
- Education/Seminar Committee
H. Iwrey reported that a round table luncheon with FTC Commissioner Thomas Leary is planned for March 23, 2001 at the Detroit Club. There will be an open forum with questions and answers from the audience. Dan Gravelyn is organizing a seminar on franchising and e-commerce issues tentatively planned for May 2001. Steve Cernak of General Motors legal staff may be invited to speak at this seminar.
- Website Committee
M. Boonstra reported that the Section Meeting Minutes and newsletters will be available on the Section website.
Old Business
Irwin Alterman has volunteered to prepare another update of the 1998 edition of Michigan Antitrust Digest.
New Business
No new business was reported.
State Bar Communications
No State Bar communications were reported.
Next Meeting
The next meeting was scheduled for 11:00 a.m., March 23, 2001 at the Detroit Club, 712 Cass Avenue, Detroit.
