FOCUS: Senate
Concurrent Resolution 39
The
State Bar of Michigan appreciates the recent actions by Senator Alan Cropsey
and his colleagues in the State Legislature leading to the adoption of
SCR 39. Consistent with the state and federal constitutions and our
responsibilities under court rule, the State Bar has long been an advocate
for improving the delivery of legal services to our state’s
indigent residents. We believe that the initiative described in SCR 39
for the collection of comprehensive information is a crucial step in
determining the appropriate course toward major improvement. It is our
pleasure to work jointly with the National Legal Aid and Defender Association
and the State Court Administrative Office to collect this information,
and to have the bipartisan support of so many Michigan legislators.
