8/10 House Judiciary Subcommittee: Accountability and Public Safety
Location: Saginaw
Agenda: Purpose of the Hearings: The committee is in response to the failures in our correctional system, exposed by murderer Patrick Selepak. To get the expert opinions of those involved on a daily basis in our criminal system. To evaluate system failures through a thorough review of our corrections system, and discuss uncertainties in the law that could lead to problematic situations.

FOCUS: HB 4467 Civil procedure; statute of limitations; civil action for damages resulting from criminal sexual conduct against a minor; extend tolling of statute of limitations. Amends sec. 5851 of 1961 PA 236 (MCL 600.5851).

In the July 24 edition of the Update, we asked for your responses regarding a member comment posted on the SBM Public Policy Resource Center on HB 4467. The SBM adopted a position of oppose in principle but a member recommended that the bill be supported.
