From Lisa Panah Welcome to the first edition of the Health Care Law Section electronic newsletter. We have started this newsletter to let you know about Section activities and other events and items of interest. We plan to distribute the newsletter each month to keep you current on recent developments. I would like to thank the Business Law Section for sharing its template with us. We have had a busy year so far, and several more programs are scheduled for the rest of the Section year, which are listed on the right. Please make sure to hold the date if you are interested in attending any of those events. If you have any ideas for other programs or Section activities, please let any of the Council members know. We welcome the input. The Section filed an amicus curiae brief with respect to the Miller vs. Allstate Insurance Company and PT Works, Inc. matter on March 12. Oral arguments are scheduled for April 10. As you can imagine, a lot of work went into developing the brief. The project was carried out by the Amicus Brief Work Group, consisting of Margaret Marchak, Michael Philbrick, Leah Romano, Dana Cilla, Joshua Moore, Thomas Trenta, Donna O'Connor, Amy Barkholz, Marta Hoffman, Keith Soltis, and Arthur DeVaux. I would like to give a special thanks to Marge who took the lead on this project. Read the Brief Just a few other items to note. A link to information on the law student writing competition is included on the left. Announcements have been sent to Michigan law schools about the competition. To further help get the word out, please tell any law students you know who are interested in health law about the competition. We are awarding $1,500 and $1,000 to the first and second place winners at the annual meeting on September 23. Finally, please note that the Health Law Index has been updated through March 20. A link is included on the left. We would like to know if you think it is a helpful research tool or not, so please let us know. |
