Dear State Bar Member:
We invite you to participate in a FREE attorney training webinar provided by Project SALUTE, a program designed by the University of Detroit Mercy School of Law to assist veterans in Federal disability and pension benefits matters. Visit their website to view the outreach and impact of the Project.
The training will cover the process for obtaining veterans benefits, explain the reasons why claims are often denied, and discuss methods of obtaining evidence in support of the claim and appealing a denied claim to the Board of Veterans Appeals and the Court of Appeals for Veterans Claims. Attorneys will learn effective advocacy strategies for dealing with the Veterans Administration system, as well as information on recent developments in Veterans Law.
In exchange for the free training, volunteer attorneys must agree to provide pro bono representation to at least one veteran with a benefits matter who has been pre-screened by Project SALUTE.
February 9, 2012 and February 10, 2012 • 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
Attorneys must attend both days and are required to register in advance. Webinar access information will be e-mailed to you prior to the training.
We look forward to your participation. Should you have questions about the webinar training and/or VA accreditation regulations, please contact Alesa Silver at silverag@udmercy.edu or (313) 596-0258.
Start the Process Now!
Please note that Project SALUTE requires attorneys to receive Veterans Administration Accreditation PRIOR to attending the webinar training. VA regulations require attorneys to be accredited in order to represent veterans before the administration. Attorneys must complete VA Form 21a which can be found online and submit the completed application via e-mail or fax to ogcaccreditationmailbox@va.gov or (202) 495-5457. Although the VA has stated that the application process will take approximately 1 month, some applications have taken about 60 days to process. |
