University of Detroit Mercy School of Law Project SALUTE

Dear pro bono attorney:

We invite you to participate in a FREE attorney training seminar provided by Project SALUTE, a program designed by the University of Detroit Mercy School of Law to assist veterans in federal disability and pension benefits matters, and sponsored in part by the State Bar of Michigan Pro Bono Initiative.

This is an advanced training on veterans law, designed for attorneys who have completed the basic training or otherwise are familiar with veterans law; the agenda is attached for your review. This course satisfies VA attorney accreditation regulations and is approved for three CLE general credit hours by the State Bar of Alabama.

Project SALUTE typically requires attorneys to be VA accredited prior to program participation as the ordinary commitment in exchange for the free training is to take one veteran's case pro bono. We are waiving the requirement to take a case and inviting attorneys to participate regardless of VA accreditation status.

However, if you are planning to counsel or represent veterans on their benefits matters, please be advised that VA regulations require attorney accreditation. To become VA accredited, attorneys must complete VA Form 21a which can be found here and submit the completed application via e-mail or fax to ogcaccreditationmailbox@va.gov or (202) 495-5457. Most applications take 90 or more days to process.
