Prisoner Rights Civil Litigation Training
For Pro Bono Attorneys & Members of the Pro Bono Council

The Pro Bono Committee of the Federal Bar Association, the U. S. District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan, and the State Bar of Michigan present a free legal training.

This free training is designed for litigators new to the area of prisoner rights who are willing to accept a pro bono appointment from the Eastern District Court. You will not only learn about the applicable law and common practices, but also tips and tricks to working with judges in the Eastern District and how to interact with prison authorities to effectively represent your client.

Panelists will include leaders and local experts in the field of prisoner rights, including:

  • Clinical Professor Dan Manville of Michigan State University College of Law
  • Valerie Newman of the State Appellate Defender Office and Criminal Defense Resource Center
  • Clinical Professor Paul Reingold of the University of Michigan Law School
  • Other local volunteer attorneys who have successfully completed prisoner rights cases

Lunch will be provided, courtesy of the Court.
