Annual Business Meeting & Program

This event is offered in conjunction with the Bar's Annual Meeting

    Date: Friday, September 19, 2014
    Business Meeting: 9:30–10:00 a.m.
    Program: 10:00–11:30 a.m.
    Location: DeVos Place, Grand Rapids
Registration is requested to allow for proper facilities planning. Visit the Bar's Annual Meeting page for more details.

Please join the General Practice Section for its Annual Business meeting on Friday, September 19, 2014, at 9:30 a.m., for the presentation of its inaugural Outstanding Achievement Award to former Oakland County Circuit Court Judge Edward Sosnick and William A. Roy for their tireless contributions to the legal profession and to the General Practice Section. The Outstanding Achievement Award is presented to one or more attorneys or judges who are members of the General Practice Section who have made a continued impact in the legal field.

The Section will conduct its annual elections for the Section's Council, including welcoming our incoming Chair, Michael Gunderson, as well as a change to our Section's name to reflect our focus on solo and small firms. The Section will be open for new members and welcomes ideas and suggestions on educational programming and seminars, joint efforts and community service ideas that will prove to be a benefit to its near 1,200 members.

Following our award presentation and business meeting, we will be co-sponsoring the Criminal Law Section Seminar on Drunk and Drugged Driving scheduled for 10:00 a.m. to noon.

Drunk & Drugged Driving in Michigan
Under Michigan law, it is illegal to drive while intoxicated or impaired, which can be the result of using alcohol, illegal drugs, and even some prescribed medications (whether used as directed or abused). The penalties for these offenses can be severe. But what is intoxicated or impaired driving? Come hear the newest updates on drunk and drugged driving laws, learn the science behind breath and blood tests that support criminal charges, and find out how to prosecute cases and how to challenge them.

Moderator: Opolla Brown, Assistant Prosecuting Attorney, Wayne County Prosecutor's Office, Detroit
Speakers: Kenneth Stecker, Traffic Safety Resource Prosecutor, Prosecuting Attorneys Association of Michigan, Lansing
Michael Nichols, The Nichols Law Firm, East Lansing

We hope that you will join us at this seminar and expand your knowledge and practice base with information and advice from the experts!

    Refreshments will be provided.
