Representative Assembly Members,
We would like to inform the you that Chief Justice Taylor will be presenting the annual State of the Judiciary address at the Representative Assembly meeting and that it will be televised on MG-TV. Photographs with Assembly members and the Chief Justice will be taken in the morning hours prior to the start of the Assembly meeting. More details will be included in the agenda packet which will be mailed by March 13.
The Pictorial Directory is now up on the Representative Assembly's website, which can be found at www.michbar.org/generalinfo/repassembly.cfm. Please take a moment to make sure your information is correct, if you have any changes, please e-mail them to Anne Smith at asmith@mail.michbar.org. Also, if your photo is not included and you would like it included, please e-mail or mail your photo to Anne Smith at the State Bar of Michigan. You will have the opportunity to have your photo taken at the April 12 meeting as well.
We would like to congratulate RA member David Herrington of Huron County for his appointment as judge to the 73B District Court.
As a reminder the deadline date for submitting nominations for the Michael Franck and Unsung Hero Awards is Friday, February 22. Nominations should be sent to: Anne M. Smith, Representative Assembly Awards, State Bar of Michigan, 306 Townsend Street, Lansing MI 48933. The Assembly's Nominating and Awards Committee, chaired by Victoria Radke, will review the nomination applications and make a recommendation to the Representative Assembly at its April 12, 2008 meeting.
Also, the deadline date for submitting proposals for the April 12 meeting is Wednesday, February 27. On the Representative Assembly's website there are updated samples of proposals on how they should be submitted. To all Members of the Representative Assembly:
Please share with your local bar the attached letter and summary of the September 27, 2007 Representative Assembly meeting with respect to the two proposals discussed and voted upon.
Kathy Kakish, Elizabeth Johnson, and I have put together the standing committee membership assignments, and liaison assignments to the Sections and Committees of the State Bar.
We attempted to use the preferences that were given by the RA members for their first or second choices. In addition, limitation as to the number of members on each Committee restricted our choices, but we are also allowed Associate Member affiliation which helps broaden the input in to the Committees, and we attempted to use that vehicle as well. I have confirmed with the chairs of the Committees their willingness to serve, and look forward to the participation of all in the RA process. Please note: If you are assigned as a liaison to a Committee or Section you will need to contact the chair to introduce yourself and discuss any concerns they may have that may need to be brought back to the RA. Committee and Section liaison assignments are attached.
The RA leadership is in the process of putting together a pictorial directory for the 2007-2008 RA members. If you did not have your photo taken at the Annual Meeting in Grand Rapids, please submit your photo by November 21 to Anne Smith at the State Bar of Michigan, 306 Townsend St., Lansing, MI 48933 or by e-mail to asmith@mail.michbar.org. The pictorial directory will be posted on the State Bar of Michigan's website and will be accessible to the bench, bar, and the public at large. Besides your picture, the information guide will include your name, business address, e-mail address (if available), and telephone number. Given that all RA members are holding what is essentially public office, your RA leadership is working from the assumption that you have no objection to your photograph and business contact information being published. However, if that is not the case and if you have an objection, please contact Anne Smith by response to this e-mail by November 21.
Remember, the Bar will publish your photo and contact information UNLESS you contact Anne Smith and opt out (asmith@mail.michbar.org or (517) 346-6374).
Upcoming deadline dates:
