Chair’s Letter from Ann Hollenbeck:
Thank you to the Medical Legal Subcommittee (Trish Shabath, Steve Bender, and Patrick Haddad) for hosting a well-received teleconference on Pay for Performance and Quality Measures on December 9, 2008. Speakers Dr. Tammy Lundstrom and Jan Anderson, Esq. presented a wealth of information on this important topic.

Please mark your calendar for Tuesday, January 13, 2009. The Providers Subcommittee is kicking off a series of introductory programs for new health care lawyers. In this first session I will address tax-exempt matters, which will be presented in a teleconference format on January 13 from noon to 1:15 p.m. The program will cover:

  • Introduction of tax-exempt classifications.
  • Governance and transparency of tax-exempt organizations.
  • Redesigned Form 990.
  • Intermediate sanctions rules.

The Technology Subcommittee's first teleconference addressing HIPAA security audit issues is scheduled for Tuesday, January 27, 2009, at noon. Planned speakers include David Miller of Compuware and Randy Gainer, Esq.

There is no cost to section members for either of these teleconferences.

Many of you received the impassioned e-mail via our listserve from David Haron concerning his personal, difficult experience with our health care system. If you have any interest in joining David to consider ways in which our Section can positively impact the delivery of health care services, please contact me (ahollenbeck@honigman.com).
