Chair’s Letter from Ann Hollenbeck: The Medical/Legal Subcommittee is hosting a teleconference at Noon on Monday, March 16, 2009, to present on Privilege and Confidentiality Issues under the Patient Safety and Quality Improvement Act of 2005 and Michigan law. Jan Anderson, Esq. and Amy Barkholz, Esq. will be presenting on this topic, which follows up on our December 9, 2008 teleconference. There is no cost to section members for either of these teleconferences. See the links attached for information or contact Denise Adams at hclsassistant@yahoo.com. Thank you to the Providers Subcommittee (Jennifer Benedict, Chris Shride, and Margaret Chamberlain) for hosting a Tax-Exempt Primer earlier this month. It was the first in a series of primer programs designed to benefit our members who are new to the practice of health care law. The 15th Annual Health Law Institute , co-sponsored by the HCLS and ICLE, will be held on Thursday and Friday, March 5-6, 2009. It is a great program featuring numerous expert speakers on highly relevant health law topics. Please join us! For more information, go to http://www.icle.org. Save the Date: note that on May 6, 2009, and May 20, 2009, we will be hosting a two-part Medicare Advantage Program. More information will follow as planning progresses. |
Law School for Legislators. The State Bar of Michigan is hosting Law School for Legislators designed to help educate new members of the Michigan Legislature on legal and regulatory matters. Our Section will be hosting a session in March on health care law issues. Many thanks to Amy Barkholz and Jan Anderson for coordinating this educational session. Annual Meeting Planning. The Section’s annual meeting will be held in September 2009. We are already planning our program. You will shortly see a call for topics; please begin considering now the hot topics you’d like to see addressed at this meeting. If you wish to participate in our planning, please contact me at ahollenbeck@honigman.com. Pro Bono Efforts. In these difficult times, the efforts of our Pro Bono Committee are more important now than ever. Do you have service opportunities to share? Do you wish to give your time? Please contact Rob Iwrey at riwrey@wachler.com. As always, please do not hesitate to contact me or any other Council member with your thoughts, questions and suggestions for our Section. We welcome all ideas! Thank you.
