Chair’s Letter from Ann Hollenbeck:
Our Section year is off to a great start! Please mark your calendar for December 9, 2008. The Medical Legal Subcommittee is hosting a teleconference from noon to 1:30 p.m. on patient safety and quality issues. The program will cover:
- What groups are gathering hospital quality data?
- How is the data being used and by whom?
- Implications for payors and providers.
- Pending Michigan legislation on patient safety issues.
Speakers include Jan Anderson and Tammy Lundstrom with Patricia Schabath serving as moderator. There is no cost to section members.
Congratulations to the Providers Subcommittee for hosting a great teleconference on the most recent Stark Law revisions. We had over 100 participants. Thank you to Jennifer Benedict, Chris Shride, and Margaret Chamberlain for their great work on such an important timely topic.
Our Section will also be participating in a new program sponsored by the State Bar of Michigan for freshman legislators. “Law School for Legislators” is intended to provide a basic overview of various topics to new legislators, one of which will be health care law. Thank you to Jan Anderson and Amy Barkholz for leading this effort. More information will follow as the Bar develops this program.
