Law Student Writing Competition
2008 Winners About the Competition The Health Care Law Section is sponsoring a writing competition for all second and third year law students. The theme is the ethical, legal, and business implications of voluntarily disclosing medical errors to patients. Students are free to approach the topic from any angle that suits and interests them. Obviously, this is not strictly legal writing, but will combine legal skills with an analysis of current trends in health care generally. The Section will award a first prize of $1,500 and a second prize of $1,000 for the best written product. Council members will judge the submissions on quality of the analysis, innovation in approach to topic, style quality, and grammar and appearance. Submissions should be no longer than 10 pages. Students should not feel compelled to write 10 pages if they are able to appropriately address their topic more succinctly. The Council is looking for quality, not quantity. Submissions must be e-mailed, in Word format, to Joanne R. Lax at jlax@dykema.com before July 31, 2008. Be sure to include an address and cell phone number where you can be reached over the summer. Prizes will be awarded at the 2008 Annual Meeting to be held at the Detroit Institute of Arts on September 23, 2008. The winners will receive a complimentary admission to the program, which will include luncheon round table discussions of current health care law topics, an education program on the voluntary disclosure essay topic, a cocktail reception, and private tours of selected galleries at the museum.
