NewsLetter from the Council

It’s spring, and that means it’s time to attend the Section’s annual Spring Networking Event. We are expecting a big turnout this year at the Post Bar in Novi as the IT Law Section is sponsoring the event in conjunction with the Young Lawyers Section and one of Michigan’s biggest IT networking organizations, DetroitNET.org. Get the details in our Upcoming Events section below.

Also, check out the Section’s new Facebook page and become a fan! Special thanks to Section and council member Bill Lamping for setting this page up. It will be another useful place to obtain information about Section news and events and to let us know what you would like from the Section.

If you missed it in your electronic mailbox, the March 2010 edition of the Michigan IT Lawyer is available at the IT Law Section’s website. All of the past issues are available as well.

We welcome your comments on how to improve this e-Newsletter to better serve you and the rest of our membership. We also welcome contributions of anything that you think would be of interest to IT lawyers. If you would like to contribute, please contact Ron Nixon at ron.nixon@kkue.com or Samuel Frederick at sfrederick@fosterswift.com.

Spring Networking Event ! On Thursday, April 15, 2010, instead of doing something taxing, plan on something more relaxing: Join the IT Law Section for our Spring Networking Event! This year we are joining forces with DetroitNET.org at the Post Bar in Novi from 5:00-8:00 p.m. Our Section will be a co-sponsor of one of Michigan’s premier IT networking events, attended by hundreds of IT professionals, recruiters, job-seekers, and lawyers. And best of all, the event is FREE to attend! Even more good news, this event will benefit the Pink Fund, a breast cancer charity.

Please register by April 9 to receive a pre-printed name tag! Of course, walk-ins are welcome. For more information, check out the events section of the Section website. To register now, just e-mail Anthony Targan at atargan@comcast.net with the following information:

  • Name
  • Firm/company
  • City
  • e-Mail address
  • Indicate whether you are a member of the IT Law Section or the Young Lawyers Section

Annual Meeting and ICLE IT Law Seminar:  On September 22, 2010, we will hold our next annual meeting in combination with our ICLE IT Law Seminar. This year, we have an informative ¾ day seminar planned, followed by cocktails at the Inn at St. John's in Plymouth. Please make every effort to attend, as the topics will certainly be of interest to you in your practice.

We are currently in the process of providing sponsorship opportunities for the September seminar. If you are interested in a sponsorship opportunity or know anyone else that may be, please pass that information along to me at jbisdorf@jaffelaw.com. Also, please be sure to pass along information on these activities to any colleagues that you think may have an interest in them. We are always interested in growing the Section’s membership.
