Meeting Minutes

January 9, 2001

    Members Present:
    John Gorzalski
    Bill Parsons
    Kappa Mann
    Michelle Schriner
    Anita Monaco
    Jeanne Yee

Ms. Monaco called the meeting to order at approximately 7:45 a.m., and she raised the issue of how best to publicize our February 20 seminar on multidisciplinary practices by Steve Epstein. Ms. Schriner agreed to develop a flyer for distribution and to be the contact for registration. She will e-mail the flyer to the Section members, and she will provide it to Mr. Parsons who will distribute it to human resource professionals and legal assistants. Ms. Mann will attend the upcoming ALA meeting on January 18 and announce the seminar there. It was agreed that Mr. Epstein would be paid $500.00 for the presentation.

Ms. Mann then updated the Council on her efforts to locate a partner to provide on-line courses for Section members. Although she received no response from the ALA or SkillSoft on this, Eastern Michigan University (EMU) has expressed interest. A general discussion on what these courses might look like followed. It was agreed that they should be non-credit, or perhaps one credit, courses and of short duration, i.e., a course every three weeks or so. Mr. Gorzalski had inquired of the State Bar the possibility of establishing secure access to part of the web site, and they have indicated that there is no problem with that. Ms. Mann will report back on her discussions with EMU.

Ms. Monaco announced that she will be attending an organizational meeting for the Annual Meeting of the State Bar on January 18 in Lansing. She inquired if anyone had any specific requirements for our meeting space; it was decided to request a well-located room with seating for 50-100 people.

Ms. Monaco also informed the Section that we had received a thank you note from the Justice for All Program for our recent donation.

Mr. Gorzalski told the Council that the website is current and that he will add the flyer on the upcoming seminar as soon as he receives it. There was no new Treasurer's report because Ms. Schriner has not received an updated statement from the State Bar.

At approximately 8:45 a.m. Ms. Monaco reminded the Council that we would meet next on Tuesday, February 13, at 7:30 a.m. at Bakers Square in Birmingham, and she adjourned the meeting.
