Ms. Monaco called the meeting to order at approximately 7:40 a.m. There was a brief review of the Golf Outing with the ALA on June 13. It was agreed that the event went very well and that Mr. Anderson's fitness presentation was a success.
Ms. Mann then provided an update on discussions with Eastern Michigan University (EMU) regarding online courses. She and Ms. Monaco had attended a meeting on the EMU campus on June 12, and although no agreement was reached on cost or an implementation date, progress was made. A subsequent meeting is anticipated prior to the next Council meeting.
Since the Annual Meeting is fast approaching, the State Bar has requested a number of materials from Ms. Monaco. She reported that she is currently working on sending them a list of our committee heads, a recap of our events this year, and our speaker for the meeting. It was decided that a preliminary flyer should be sent around now promoting Mr. Wesemann's presentation on "Current Issues Effecting the Legal Marketplace." Mr. Gorzalski offered to work with the Lansing ALA to develop interest in the meeting, and Ms. Yee raised the possibility of providing a ride to the meeting (as discussed previously). Mr. Gorzalski will provide Ms. Schriner with the information needed to send out a flyer.
Ms. Monaco also reported to the Council on her attendance at the Bench & Bar Meeting last month. She said she found the meeting quite helpful, and it had exceeded her expectations. When the recommendations of the group are published, she will share them with us.
The next item on the agenda was the issue of developing a slate of officers for next year. After a lengthy discussion of attributes which would broaden the Council's representation, it was agreed that Mr. Gorzalski and Ms. Batts will contact several potential candidates and report back at the next meeting.
Ms. Monaco noted that the next meeting will be on Tuesday, July 10, at 7:30 a.m. at Bakers Square, and she adjourned this meeting at approximately 8:35 a.m.
