Meeting Minutes
October 9, 2001 Members Present: The meeting was called to order at approximately 7:40 a.m. We discussed the following assignments for the upcoming year: Finances Kathy Batts Mr. Gorzalski and Ms. Yee will work on the fall newsletter as part of the transition process. Potential items for the newsletter include a letter from our Chair and introduction of our liaison. Mr. Gorzalski will contact the State Bar to determine the new liaison for this year. The annual meeting has been set for September 25-27, 2002, in Grand Rapids. Mr. Gorzalski and Ms. Mann met with EMU regarding the proposal for online courses. The course involves using technology that they currently have in place for online courses. A topic is presented with an introduction and perhaps a link to a web site for further research and students are invited to comment on the questions posed by the instructor. Responses are all displayed so students can comment on the responses or on the questions with the goal of learning from each other. It's designed similar to a chat room. Pricing is $1,950 for a 4 week session with 15 students. Courses are designed based on an average commitment of 2 hours/week for 4 weeks. We discussed the concern of whether a student would have the time or the consistency in work schedule to commit to 2 hours per week for 4 straight weeks. Ms. Mann was contacted yesterday by Skillpath about our section's interest in partnering for online courses. Skillpath is in the process of developing online courses based on general management topics, which were developed through a partnership with the Harvard Business School. The course is broken into lessons that take about 10-15 minute per lesson and the entire course would take about an hour to complete. Skillpath will be getting back to Ms. Mann with the pricing by the end of next week. We decided that the members will review the demo for both of the courses above by the next meeting. We are waiting for report from State Bar to determine how much we have available. We still have to pay for the State Bar meeting in Lansing and expect 3 checks to be deposited back to our account. Ms. Kimbro estimated $8,000. Mr. Gorzalski contacted the speaker of the ALA disaster recovery workshop, Linda Dickey, Director of Operations for Integrated Tech Management, to determine her interest in speaking on disaster recovery to our group. She said that she or her associate would be interested and Mr. Gorzalski said that he would contact her for potential dates for the last week of November or the first week of December. Ms. Batts suggested rotating locations for the meeting. She will look into alternatives. We will remain at the current location for our next meeting which is scheduled for Tuesday, November, 13 at 7:30 a.m. Meeting adjourned at approximately 8:35 a.m. |
