31st Annual Charles Henry Hackley Distinguished Lecture in the Humanities
Featuring John D. Hutson
Location: Muskegon Museum of Art
Time: 7:30pm
This year’s annual Lecture will offer a speaker of particular interest to MCBA members. I hope to see you there.
North Muskegon native John D. Hutson, who became the U.S. Navy’s top lawyer involved in issues of enemy combatants and prisoner abuse, will present this year’s Hackley Lecture in the Humanities, “How We Can Lose the War on Terror.”
The lecture is free and open to the public. A reception will follow at Hackley Public Library.
Mr. Hutson worked with both 2008 presidential candidates Barack Obama and John McCain in arguing against torturing prisoners of war. A lifelong Republican, Mr. Hutson later changed parties and spoke at the 2008 Democratic National Convention.
A graduate of MSU, Mr. Hutson earned his law degree from the University of Minnesota Law School and an LLM from Georgetown University Law Center. After retiring from the Navy as its Judge Advocate General at the rank of rear admiral, Mr. Hutson most recently left the University of New Hampshire School of Law where he served as dean and president.
Mr. Hutson has been quoted in numerous national and international media and appeared in HBO’s “Ghosts of Abu Ghraib.” See Mr. Hutson's bio.
