ROCHESTER BAR ASSOCIATION

Date: March 7, 2000

Get your calendars out now

1. Next Meeting - Reminder: Our next regularly scheduled meeting will be held at the Elks Club in downtown Rochester on Tuesday, March 14, 2000. We will receive a short presentation from the Greater Rochester Area Community Foundation (GRACF) per the request of Ken Bilodeaux and Larry Ternan. We will also hear from Jennifer Marlinga of the 52-3 District Court to discuss the new drunk driving laws and how they are being implemented by that court (issues relating to ignition interlock, and related new measures to keep drunk drivers off the road).

2. April Meeting - Reminder - Please mark your calendar to welcome Hon. Judge Wendy Potts, Oakland County Circuit Court. We will really need to have members in attendance if we hope to continue benefit from meeting our busy judges in the future - so please mark your calendar for Tuesday, April 11, 2000 at noon at the Elks Club and plan to be there.

3. LAW DAY - Time is approaching - Mark your calendar for Law Day, May 1 (Monday) 10 am to 3 pm., at the Older Persons Commission building on Woodward in Rochester. Seminar Topics include Estate Planning, Lifetime Probate, Medicaid & Nursing Home Issues, Real Estate Law, and Computers and the Law. For the luncheon we would like to have at least one attorney to sit at each table to meet with the seniors for whom the RBA is providing this lunch (your cash contributions are welcome to defer the cost of this meal). We also need volunteers for one-on-one counseling during the 10am-12noon session and the 1pm-3pm session. Remember, this is our day for them.

As I said in my last update, this is a "once in a year opportunity" to give back to your community all that the law has given to you. PLEASE CALL ME OR EMAIL ME OR FAX ME TO LET ME KNOW YOUR WILLINGNESS AND AVAILABILITY TO PARTICIPATE. Several attorneys have already emailed me with their willingness to help - several have also offered donations. Don’t hesitate to let me hear from you.

4. RBA GOLF OUTING IS IN THE PLANNING STAGES - Doug Otlewski and John Maloney are organizing our golf outing once again this year. Doug advises that our outing will be held on Monday, September 11, 2000. Mark your calendar. Lunch at noon, tee off starts at 1pm. We need to limit the numbers who participate this year (we’re becoming too successful!), so once we confirm our per person cost, we will let you know and you will have to "reserve" your spot by July 15, 2000 (with payment).
