2017-2018 Dues Invoices Now Available
We recently notified SBM members in a member advisory that we will send an e-mail instead of a paper dues invoice when it is time to pay State Bar dues.
The following language was sent as an e-mail to all active and inactive members of the State Bar, and will serve as their official notice that their 2017-2018 annual disclosure statement and dues invoice is now available online.
Paying Your Dues
To complete your annual disclosures and pay your dues online with a debit or credit card or to print a copy of your dues statement to pay by check, go to e.michbar.org and log in using your member login and password. You can also visit the State Bar’s website at michbar.org and click on “Member Area Login.” If you do not know or forgot your login and password, click the “Need your login information?” link on the login page and follow the directions to reset your password. In order to log in to your account, you may need to upgrade your Internet browser to its newest version.
Once you’re logged in, you may pay your dues online by clicking “Pay Your Dues Now.” If you prefer to mail a check along with your dues statement, click on “Pay Your Dues by Mail” and print a copy of your dues statement.
If you, your firm, or employer will pay via check, print your member dues invoice, complete the disclosures, and make necessary changes. Mail the invoice and check to our lockbox at State Bar of Michigan, PO Box 1406, Grand Rapids, MI 49501-1406.
After Paying Your Dues
Dues paid online will be updated the following business day and a bar card will be issued within three business days. Dues paid by mail will take longer to process; you may not receive your bar card for several weeks after payment is processed. We also allow you to opt out of receiving a bar card this year if you don’t need one—simply select that option under Communications Preferences online or on page two of your printed dues statement.
Effective with the 2017-2018 fiscal year beginning October 1, the Michigan Supreme Court has increased the discipline portion of the annual dues by $15. Michigan Supreme Court Administrative Order No. 2017-1 increases the discipline dues to $105 in the 2017-2018 fiscal year and $120 in the 2018-2019 fiscal year. The changes for the 2017-2018 fiscal year are reflected in the dues statement online and on the paper invoice.
