State Bar's Open Justice Commission to Present Forum on Diversity, Race Relations, and Bias Prevention

7/25/00

"Realistic, intense, thought-provoking, and mesmerizing" are all words that have been used to describe the national tour of the program "You Don't Know Me, Until You Know Me." Now, the State Bar of Michigan's Open Justice Commission (OJC) is bringing this powerful experience in diversity, race relations, and bias prevention to the Bar's 65th Annual Meeting in Detroit.

In a gripping, 75-minute performance, actor and clinical psychologist Michael Fowlin slips in and out of a half-dozen male and female characters exploring the themes of isolation, discrimination, violence, intolerance, and hate.

OJC Co-chairs Justice Marilyn Kelly and Judge Harold Hood will offer reflections on the program, along with a panel of judges and attorneys. Join the OJC on Thursday, September 22 of the State Bar's Annual Meeting for this program with a very serious purpose-raising awareness about the impact of intolerance and bias on our children and in our world.

There will be two presentations: 2:00 p.m. - 3:30 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. - 5:00 p.m., on Level 2 of the Cobo Center. This program has broad appeal to a wide audience from adults to teens, lawyers and non-lawyers. State Bar members are invited to bring family members and guests.
