Danial J. Kim Accepts Position as Editor of ABA Journal

10/5/00

Current State Bar of Michigan Interim Executive Director Danial J. Kim has accepted the position of editor of the American Bar Association's magazine, the ABA Journal. Kim will assume his new position with the ABA in Chicago, Illinois on November 1. "I am very excited about helping to lead the Journal into the future," Kim said. "I am looking forward to using my experience as a lawyer, as publisher of Michigan Lawyers Weekly and as a bar executive to help make the Journal a more valuable publication."

Before becoming Interim Executive Director of the State Bar, Kim served as Deputy Executive Director, overseeing several departments, including Publications, Media Relations, Administration, Finance, Personnel, Meetings, Community Relations and the Lawyers and Judges Assistance Program. He is also directly responsible for the Marketing Department at the State Bar.

Kim's most recent accomplishment is the conception, development and launch of the e-Journal, an electronic publication delivered by e-mail everyday to every member of the State Bar who has provided the Bar with an e-mail address. He received a Luminary Award for creating the e-Journal from the National Association of Bar Executives (NABE) Communications Section in September 2000 and the e-Journal received a Gold Circle Award from the American Society of Association Executives in 1999. Kim is also on the Executive Council for the Communications Section of NABE.

Before joining the Bar, Kim was publisher of Michigan Lawyers Weekly. He has also practiced law in Detroit with Clark, Klein & Beaumont. He is a 1990 graduate of the University of Michigan Law School and received his undergraduate degree from U of M in 1984. Kim lives in Holt, Michigan with his wife Mary and two sons, Dillon, 6 and Marshall 2.

The ABA Journal is the flagship publication of the American Bar Association and the largest legal periodical in the world, with a circulation of 390,000. The Journal is managed by an independent Board of Editors and has as its mission to make it the pre-eminent magazine of the legal profession.
