Danial J. Kim Wins NABE Communications Section Luminary Award
9/11/00 State Bar Interim Executive Director Danial J. Kim is the 2000 winner of the National Association of Bar Executives (NABE) Communications Section's Luminary Award. Kim won the award for creating the State Bar of Michigan's electronic publication, the e-Journal. The Luminary Award is presented to honor the work of individuals and teams for excellence, creativity, and professionalism in Bar communications. Kim received the award on September 8, 2000 during the annual NABE Communication Section Workshop in Lake Tahoe, California. "Winning this award is an honor because I truly believe that the e-Journal demonstrates the kind of innovative thinking, creativity, and use of technology that is required for bar associations to serve members in the future," Kim said. "The primary objectives of the e-Journal are to provide valuable, practical information to lawyer members in a quick and easily accessible format and to enhance member loyalty and satisfaction by saving them time and helping them professionally." The e-Journal is an e-mail publication that provides daily case summaries organized by practice area from the Michigan Supreme Court, Court of Appeals (published and unpublished), Sixth Circuit, Bankruptcy and the federal courts of the Eastern and Western Districts. It also includes Michigan Supreme Court Administrative Orders, attorney discipline reports, ethics opinions and much more. The e-Journal is sent every day to every member who provides the State Bar with an e-mail address and is provided to members as part of their member dues at no additional charge. Kim's e-Journal also led the State Bar to win the prestigious 1999 Gold Circle Award from the Communications Section of the American Society of Association Executives (ASAE). The Gold Circle Award has consistently recognized excellence in association communications-from public relations campaigns to publications, for more than 20 years.
