State Bar President to Attend Harriet Tubman Award Breakfast

The President of the State Bar of Michigan, Thomas J. Ryan will join members of the Black Women Lawyers Association at a breakfast April 21st to honor the winners of the Harriet Tubman Award. This year's honorees are retired judge Lucille Watts and attorney Willa Mae King. The event will begin at 8 a.m. at Detroit's Renaissance Center.

The Harriet Tubman Award honors accomplished African American lawyers and judges who serve as positive role models in the advancement of justice.

Retired judge Lucille Watts is the first African American woman elected to a county circuit court bench. Attorney Willa Mae King is the First African American woman seeking election to a county circuit court judgeship in Michigan.

Florida Supreme Court Justice Peggy Quince will be the keynote speaker at the event.
