The Legal Assistants Section of the State Bar of Michigan has awarded six scholarships totaling $5,000 to Michigan students pursuing an education in this field. The recipients of this year's Legal Assistants Scholarship Program Awards are as follows:

• Joan M. Carter from Garden City, who was awarded $2,000. She attends Madonna University in Livonia.
• Sheana M.Burk of Ellsworth was awarded $750 and attends Lake Superior State University in Sault Ste.Marie.
• Nicole L. Zamiara of Comstock Park was also awarded $750. She attends Grand Valley State University in Allendale.
• Susan Fullar of Royal Oak was awarded $500. She attends Oakland Community College in Farmington Hills.
• Tammy Shanteau of Remus was awarded $500. She attends Montcalm Community College in Sidney.
• Michelle Walter, South Boardman was also awarded $500. She attends Northwestern Michigan College in Traverse City. Scholarship chairperson Tracey C. Hammond said the Legal Assistants Section "received a great response to this new program and looks forward to its continued success."

Students enrolled in a degree or certificate Legal Assistants program are eligible to apply for 2002 scholarships. Awards will range from $250 to $2,000. Completed applications must be returned and postmarked no later than April 1, 2002 to be considered.
