Black History Month Event Celebrates Achievements in the Legal Field
2/14/02 "A Tribute to My Brothers"—a Black History Month event to commemorate the professional and personal achievements of male attorneys has been scheduled for Thursday, February 28, in Southfield. The event is co-sponsored by the State Bar of Michigan Young Lawyers Section, the Association of Black Judges of Michigan, the D. Augustus Straker Bar Association, the Wolverine Bar Association and supporting sponsors, the Barristers of the Detroit Metropolitan Bar. The program will include two keynote speakers with illustrious legal careers - Elias Escobedo, the president of the Oakland County Bar Association and the Honorable Wade Harper McCree, the President of the Association of Black Judges. They will discuss their backgrounds and share their professional experiences and insights. Each organization will also honor one attorney who embodies the professional and personal greatness through an established legacy of giving back to the profession and the community. "A Tribute to my Brothers" will take place at the Southfield Skyline Club located at 2000 Town Center, Southfield, Michigan. A reception will be held from 6:30 to 7:00 p.m. The program, which is free, will begin at 7 p.m. A light buffet dinner will be available during the entire program.
