ATJ Fund Makes $6,000 Grant to Elder Law

November 15, 2002

Project Manager Candice Janiczek and Elder Law of Michigan (ELM) call center staff member Sarah Cook (seated), update information in their Lansing office. Both women are involved in a pilot project to help the elderly poor participate in a food assistance program and access other critical benefits. The Michigan State Bar Foundation awarded the ELM $6,000 as part of the second round of grants from the Access to Justice Fund. A total of $45,000 was given to various groups in the state to help address the unmet civil legal needs of low-income families. These grants are made possible through contributions from lawyers, judges and others to the Access to Justice Campaign. Elder Law of Michigan will also use the funds to enhance its call center effectiveness and provide online support for the project. Recent government statistics show that 1.4 million households with elderly people reported that they did not have enough to eat. To donate to the ATJ Fund, please visit www.atjfund.org or call 1-800-968-1442.
