New Chair of Bar's Elder Law and Advocacy Section Announces Outreach Program

10/16/02

James SchusterThe Elder Law and Advocacy Section of the State Bar of Michigan has initiated a new outreach and information program to educate people about the work of elder law attorneys. The new chair of the Section, Southfield attorney, James Schuster said that members would speak for free to any group that would like to hear about their work or current issues in elder law.

"Elder law is a recent development in the Bar. Most people don't realize that there are attorneys familiar with their problems, like issues involving Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid," Schuster said.

Elder Law Section members educate and advocate on issues that relate to consumers, legislation and public policy. Recent work of the Section has focused on the protection of vulnerable adults, guardianship reform and the education of professionals and the public. The Section also continues to establish relationships with others in the aging and human services system.
