State Bar President Leads Upper Peninsula Tour

9/27/02

Reginald M. TurnerIn keeping with annual tradition, the new President of the State Bar of Michigan Reginald M. Turner will be traveling north September 30 through October 3, 2002, to visit various Upper Peninsula communities where he will meet and address members of the legal profession.

As president of the 35,000-member State Bar, Turner is placing high priority on implementing the Bar's Strategic Plan with an emphasis on financial management, member services and justice initiatives. Under the plan, broad goals and objectives have been identified in Programs and Services, Public Policy, Image and Identity, Human Resources, Fiscal Policy, and Structure and Governance.

"Lawyers in the Upper Peninsula will benefit significantly from the additional technological support and practical assistance mandated by the Strategic Plan," Turner said. Turner, a partner in the Detroit law firm Clark Hill, where he practices labor and employment law, is a civic activist who has considerable governmental experience at the federal, state, and local levels. He leads a five-member State Bar team, which will make stops in Sault Ste Marie, Escanaba, Iron Mountain, Houghton, and Marquette.

The new president will be accompanied by the State Bar of Michigan Executive Director John T. Berry; the chair of the Representative Assembly, Thomas C. Rombach; the Bar's Director of Programs and Services Lisa Allen-Kost; and, Commissioner at Large James N. Erhart.
