Michigan Supreme Court Notice of Public Administrative Hearing June 27, 2002

Pursuant to Administrative Order 1997-11, the Michigan Supreme Court will hold a public administrative hearing on Thursday, June 27, 2002, in the old Supreme Court courtroom on the third floor of the State Capitol Building in Lansing. The hearing will begin at 9:30 a.m. and adjourn no later than 11:30 a.m. Persons wishing to address the Court regarding matters on the agenda are advised that each speaker will be allotted three minutes. Any questioning of the speakers by the justices will take place after that time. Those who wish to secure a place on the agenda are requested to notify the Office of the Clerk of the Court at P.O. Box 30052, Lansing, MI 48909, no later than Tuesday, June 25, 2002.

Administrative matters on the agenda for this hearing are:

  1. 1999-31–Proposed amendment of Subchapter 9.200 of the Michigan Court Rules.

    Whether to adopt extensive revisions of the court rules governing the judicial-discipline system.
  2. 2001-29–Proposed amendment of Rule 702 of the Michigan Rules of Evidence.

    Whether to amend the rule to add a provision codifying the trial judge’s role as "gatekeeper" for novel expert testimony.
  3. 2001-06–Proposed amendment of Rule 2.102 of the Michigan Court Rules.

    Whether to require notice to prisoners of proceedings affecting custody and parental rights.
  4. 2001-11–Proposed amendment of Rule 3.603 of the Michigan Court Rules.

    Whether to amend the interpleader rule to include an explicit provision for attorney fees.
  5. 2001-27–Proposed amendment of Rule 6.508 of the Michigan Court Rules.

    Whether to amend MCR 6.508(D) to allow courts to grant relief from judgment when ineffective assistance by appellate counsel causes a defendant to forfeit the initial right to appeal.
  6. 2001-55–Proposed security standards for trial courts.
