State Bar Accepting Nominations for McCree Awards

1/10/03

Nominations for the 29th Annual Wade H. McCree Awards for the advancement of justice are now open. Sponsored by the State Bar of Michigan, the purpose of the McCree Awards competition is to grant statewide recognition to broadcast and print media journalists who help to foster greater public understanding of the inherent values of our legal and judicial system through their published materials.

To be eligible, written materials and radio/television broadcasts must be published/aired between January 1, 2002, and December 31, 2002. They must inform and educate citizens about the role of the law, the courts, law enforcement agencies, and the legal profession in today's society. They should also disclose practices in need of improvement and encourage legal and legislative efforts to update and modernize our laws, courts and law enforcement agencies.

Print entries may consist of feature or news articles, interpretive analyses, editorials or combinations of these. In the broadcast category, documentaries, educational or editorial programs may be submitted. Any newspaper, wire service, news syndicate, magazine, radio station, legal publication or network in Michigan or any of their employees are eligible to enter the awards competition. There is no charge for entering. The awards will be presented on Saturday, April 12, 2003 at the Kellogg Center in East Lansing.

To review the official awards criteria and to obtain a printable entry form, visit our website at www.michbar.org and click on the "member resources" button, "awards" link or the "public resources" button, "events and awards" link.
