State Bar Children's Law Section Elects New Officers

11/26/03

The State Bar of Michigan Children's Law Section (CLS) has elected Rebekah Visconti of Clarkson as its new chair. Visconti is the Assistant Attorney General in charge of Children and Youth Services. She replaces outgoing chair Jennifer Pillette, a juvenile court referee from Wayne County.

Kathryn Fehrman, Deputy Director of the Family Independence Agency, is the new chair-elect. Judith New, a child and family advocacy attorney from Ann Arbor is Secretary, and Geula Tron, a child and family advocacy attorney from Livonia is Treasurer.

Visconti, Fehrman, and New have previously served on the CLS Executive Committee. This is Tron's first year on the committee. Visconti's objectives as chair are to continue with the section's emphasis on training attorneys who represent children and families, with the overriding goals being safety and permanency for children.

The Children's Law Section advocates for the best interests of children in all areas of their lives by providing support and training for attorneys who assist children under the jurisdiction of Michigan's legal system. The section also provides public policy advocacy on issues directly affecting children. There are 678 members in the Children's Law Section. All are attorneys admitted to the bar in Michigan.
