DaimlerChrysler Corporation Donates $25,000 to Access To Justice Fund
11/17/03 The DaimlerChrysler Corporation has contributed $25,000 to the State Bar's Access to Justice Endowment Fund in support of civil legal aid programs for the poor in Michigan. The funds, received and managed by the Michigan State Bar Foundation, add to an endowment that has grown to over $1.5 million dollars since 1998. Frank Fountain, Senior Vice President of Government Affairs for the DaimlerChrysler Corporation stressed that the work of the legal aid programs in Michigan complements the Daimler Chrysler mission to lead in the building of a safe and productive society. "The legal aid offices are an integral part of the overall community effort to build social conditions that help people and communities prosper," Fountain said. "Their legal work on behalf of poor people improves the community and the business environments in which we are located. The concentration of Michigan's low-income population in southeast Michigan, and the strong DaimlerChrysler presence in this area make DaimlerChrysler support of the program much more meaningful," he noted. The president of the State Bar, Scott S. Brinkmeyer observed that the DaimlerChrysler contribution added a wonderful momentum to efforts to raise money to support civil legal aid. "We appreciate DaimlerChrylser's generosity and its understanding of the value of legal aid to our communities, and the important services legal aid oftentimes provides to members of the community who are part of the workforce, yet not eligible for legal aid services. We encourage other corporate leaders to look at our Access to Justice programs and join us in our personal and professional efforts to provide stable funding for legal aid providers," Brinkmeyer added. The Access to Justice Fund has raised nearly $4 million in cash and pledges since 1998.
