Straker and Wolverine Bar Associations to Host Reception for Black Law Students
10/31/03 On Sunday, November 9, 2003, the D. Augustus Straker Bar Association and the Wolverine Bar Association will host a reception for the Black Law Student Associations of the Ava Maria School of Law, Michigan State University-DCL College of Law, The Thomas M. Cooley Law School, Wayne State University Law School, University of Detroit Mercy School of Law, and the University of Michigan Law School. The reception will provide an opportunity for law students to meet and network with judges and attorneys who practice in Wayne and Oakland Counties. The event will take place from 3:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the law offices of Charfoos & Christensen, P.C, located at 5510 Woodward Ave. in Detroit, across from the Wayne State University Law School. The Wolverine Bar Association was established in the 1930s by African-American attorneys to coordinate the energies and talents of the increasing number of African Americans admitted to practice throughout Michigan. The D. Augustus Straker Bar Association was founded in 1990 as a proactive organization with the mission of promoting legal practice opportunities for minorities and women and to facilitate equal justice for all citizens of Oakland County. Both organizations are committed to assisting in the success of Black Student Association members throughout law school and their legal careers. For more information and to RSVP, contact Angelique Strong Marks at (248) 470-2616, Sherry D. O'Neal at (313) 223-3500, or a local Black Law Student Association president.
