Ceremony
to Mark Law Day 2003 to be Held at Michigan Hall of Justice
4/2/03 Law Day 2003 will be celebrated at the new Michigan Hall of Justice in downtown Lansing on Thursday, May 1st. This year's Law Day theme is "Independent Courts Protect Our Liberties." The featured speaker is Maura Corrigan, the Chief Justice of the Michigan Supreme Court. In conjunction with the event, which is sponsored by the Michigan Lawyers' Auxiliary, a luncheon to honor sixth, seventh, and eighth grade Law Day essay contest winners will be held. During the luncheon, the Michigan Lawyers' Auxiliary will present the Crystal Apple Award honoring a K-12 teacher who has made outstanding contributions through law-related education. President Dwight Eisenhower designated May 1st as Law Day in 1958. The day is an opportunity to strengthen our heritage of liberty, justice and equality under the law. As part of this year's program, tours of the Capitol Building and the Learning Center - a gallery that spotlights how the justice system works--will also be offered. The Learning Center is located on the first floor of the Hall of Justice at the corner of Allegan Street and Martin Luther King Boulevard. For more information about Law Day please visit the State Bar of Michigan web site at www.michbar.org. Under Public Resources, click on Events and Awards to go to Law Day specific information. Donations to offset the cost of this event will be accepted at the luncheon. To make a reservation, please contact Susan Oudsema at (800) 968-1442, extension 6423 or e-mail soudsema@mail.michbar.org.
