State Bar Introduces Online Orientation for New Members
11/17/03 The State Bar of Michigan is now welcoming its new members through an online orientation. New members can access the Bar's website at www.michbar.org and click on "Member Services Orientation" under the News from the Bar column. The information is organized in ten key areas: Frequently Asked Questions, Member Services, Public Policy Resource Center, Justice Initiatives, Sections and Committees, Lawyer Referral Service, Lawyers and Judges Assistance Program, Ethics, Publications and the Institute for Continuing Legal Education. Hyperlinks are provided at the end of each segment. The online orientation replaces the Bar's printed new member kits, which proved to be costly to update frequently. "The online orientation saves the Bar time and money and is a much more efficient way of reaching our members. It's part of our ongoing effort to enhance the profession and to provide as much help to our members as we can," said Scott S. Brinkmeyer, president of the State Bar of Michigan. Established in 1935, the State Bar of Michigan is composed of more than 35,000 active members who serve Michigan citizens. All practicing attorneys and judges must be active members in good standing. The purpose of the State Bar, as set forth by the Michigan Supreme Court is "to aid in promoting improvements in the administration of justice and advancements in jurisprudence, improving relations between the legal profession and the public, and promoting the interests of the legal profession in this state." For more information please contact the Bar's membership services department at (517) 346- 6322.
