New State Bar President Leads Upper Peninsula Tour
9/18/03 Scott S. Brinkmeyer, the new president of the State Bar of Michigan, will be heading north Sept. 29- Oct. 3 to visit several Upper Peninsula communities where he will meet and address members of the legal profession. He will lead a six-member State Bar team that will make stops in Sault Ste Marie, Escanaba, Iron Mountain, Houghton, Copper Harbor, and Marquette. As president of the 35,000-member State Bar for 2003-2004, Brinkmeyer will focus on implementing the State Bar strategic plan, placing particular emphasis on continually improving services to State Bar members and public policy as it pertains to them. During the Upper Peninsula tour, he will discuss the past Bar year and what he expects for the coming year. He will also discuss the goals and objectives of the Strategic Plan, which is in the final year of the first three-year review cycle. Brinkmeyer said that he welcomes feedback from Upper Peninsula lawyers throughout the tour. "I want to hear from them about their specific concerns and how they feel that the State Bar may be of help to them during the next Bar year," Brinkmeyer said. Brinkmeyer has been a member of Grand Rapids-based Mika, Meyers, Beckett and Jones, PLC, since 1975 and focuses his practice in the areas of litigation, dispute resolution, and facilitation. He will be accompanied by State Bar of Michigan Executive Director, John T. Berry; Chairperson of the Representative Assembly, Daniel M. Levy; State Bar Director of Programs and Services, Lisa Allen-Kost; State Bar Commissioner, James N. Erhart; and State Bar Treasurer, Ronald D. Keefe.
