State Bar Reinstates Upper Michigan Legal Institute

4/27/04

The State Bar of Michigan is bringing back its Upper Michigan Legal Institute (UMLI) in conjunction with the Bar Leadership Forum June 11-12, 2004, at the Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island.

The UMLI, a continuing education conference open to all members of the State Bar, will be returning this year after a two-year hiatus. This year's program will feature a variety of seminars of interest to Michigan lawyers such as Real Property Law, Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) Regulations, Facilitative Mediation, Family Law, and Expert Witnesses. For more information about UMLI, contact Caryl Markzon at (517) 346-6371 or cmarkzon@mail.michbar.org. Conference materials, including hotel registration forms, are also available online at http://www.michbar.org.

Held at the same time as the UMLI, the State Bar's annual Bar Leadership Forum is a "meeting of the minds" for leaders in the legal profession and is designed to give them the tools that they need to improve their lives, their practices, and the profession. The Bar Leadership Forum is a by invitation-only statewide leadership training program for incoming presidents and chairs of local and special-purpose bar associations, sections, committees and the Board of Commissioners.

Program highlights include several sessions with national association consultant Dadie Perlov, Section and Bar Association break-out sessions, and a "Dealing With The Media" seminar, which is also open to UMLI participants.

For more information about the Bar Leadership Forum, and to obtain registration materials and a detailed program, contact Anne Smith at (517) 346-6339 or asmith@mail.michbar.org.
