Justice Initiatives Teams Up With MPLP to Promote Tax Filing Help

2/20/04

Justice Initiatives Teams Up With MPLP to Promote Tax Filing Help The State Bar of Michigan's Justice Initiatives Department is working with the Michigan Poverty Law Program (MPLP) to promote the filing of the Earned Income Tax Credit (EIC) through a web-based resource.

The MPLP provides state support services to legal services programs and other poverty law advocates throughout Michigan. The EIC is a special tax benefit for people who work full or part-time. Those who qualify will owe less in taxes or may get cash back. Individuals who file taxes and do not owe anything can also get the credit.

Michigan EIC.org is a statewide resource site published by the MPLP that has information about the federal EIC, free e-filing tools and downloadable fliers. The link to the site is www.michiganeic.org.

The Justice Initiatives Department encourages members to spread the word to organizations and individuals that could benefit from this resource.
