The State Bar of Michigan Young Lawyers Section (YLS) will keep with its annual tradition and prepare holiday meals in December for those in need in Oakland and Wayne Counties.
The YLS wants to go beyond meal serving and preparation this year and is seeking volunteer attorneys to present short programs related to securing government benefits and landlord/tenant rights before the holiday meals are served. In addition, the Section would like to provide entertainment.
The first dinner, which will be co-sponsored by the D. Augustus Straker Bar Association, will be served on Saturday, December 4, at the Grace Center of Hope located at 35 E. Huron Road in Pontiac. Program preparation begins at 4:00 p.m., dinner preparation at 4:30 p.m., and dinner will be served at 6:30 p.m.
The second event, which will be co-sponsored by the Detroit Metropolitan Bar Association Barristers' Section will take place Saturday, December 11, at Highland Park Doorsteps, located at 224 Highland Park St. Meal preparation and program set-up begin at 1:30 p.m. and the meal will be served at 3:00 p.m.
Volunteers are needed to prepare meals, serve meals, and act as greeters. In addition, volunteers are needed for program set-up, to present information on government benefits and landlord/tenant rights, and to provide entertainment.
