To help attorneys communicate more effectively through the written word, the Young Lawyers Section (YLS) of the State Bar of Michigan has organized a seminar in association with attorney and acclaimed legal writing trainer Nancy Caine Harbour.
The seminar is designed to provide practical knowledge and communication tips that lawyers can take back to their offices and apply immediately to their own legal writing. It will help them build a bridge between their law school education and the skills needed for a profitable and productive law practice.
Two convenient sessions will be held—one in Southfield on Thursday, October 21, 2004 at the Skyline Club, 2000 Town Center, Suite 2800 and the other on Monday, November 8, at the State Bar building in Lansing. Both sessions will be from 8:30 a.m. to 10 a.m.
The seminar will also include highlights from A View from the Bench, Ms. Harbour's compilation of interviews with Michigan judges about what constitutes effective writing.
All lawyers are encouraged to spend 90 minutes at this interactive presentation to refresh and learn ideas about:
- Basic communication skills: A Background
- Focusing and writing clearly: A Method
- What your clients want and need in your writing: Economic Effectiveness
