Traditional drums and Indian stories will be the highlights of a fundraiser Sunday, November 20, 2005 at the Grand Rapids public museum's Van Andel Center.
The "Spirit Fund" fundraiser is sponsored by the State Bar American
Indian Law Section and the Public Museum of Grand Rapids, with the participation
of the Michigan Department of Civil Rights. The purpose
is to raise money to defray the travel cost and expenses for American Indian
spiritual leaders for their visits to correctional facilities to assist incarcerated
Native Americans.
Renowned authors and storytellers Simon Otto and Larry "Pun" Plamondon will be featured. The cost is $20 for adults. Children under 15 are free if accompanied by an adult. All profits will go to the "Spirit Fund." The event will be from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. The museum is located at 272 Pearl Street, NW Grand Rapids.
