In the Company of the "Big Four"

3/14/05

State Bar of Michigan (SBM) executive director John T. Berry and SBM president Nancy J. Diehl keep company with four of the state's greatest justices — James V. Campbell, Benjamin F. Graves, Thomas M. Cooley, and Isaac P. Christiancy, known as the "Big Four" at the Hall of Justice in Lansing. The portrait, which was commissioned by Detroit lawyer Frank G. Mixter and painted by John Stevens Coppin in 1966, was permanently loaned by the State Bar to the Michigan Supreme Court. A special session of the Court was convened March 8, 2005 to acknowledge the loan. The president of the Michigan Supreme Court Historical Society, Wallace D. Riley hosted the event.
