The phones kept ringing on Law Day, Sunday May 1. Steve Idema, a Lansing-area attorney spent a busy two hours giving free legal advice to callers state-wide. Volunteer attorneys, who worked in two-hour blocs, took calls from noon to 6 p.m. In all, 119 phone calls were handled on a range of issues such as child custody and divorce, criminal matters, malpractice, estate planning, workers' compensation, employment law, insurance and small claims. The Law Day hotline was the first cooperative effort of its kind between the State Bar of Michigan, Ingham County Bar Association and Legal Services of South Central Michigan.
