4/21/05

As part of celebrations to mark Legal Assistant Day on May 3, an educational seminar has been organized by the Legal Assistants Section of the State Bar of Michigan. An Annual day of education has been set for Friday May 6, 2005 at the State Bar's Michael Franck Building in Lansing from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The seminar will cover topics in the areas of litigation and business law.

There will also be a short celebration to mark Legal Assistant Day since it was first designated five years ago. The president of the State Bar, Nancy Diehl will give a keynote address. A general session on legal writing in plain English by Jeanette Buttrey, associate professor at Cooley Law School will start the program.

  • Business law topics will be taught by R.Scott Keller, a partner at Warner Norcross and Judd LLP; and Jean Schtokal and Matt Hrebec, both shareholders at Foster Swift Collins and Coey, P.C.

  • Peter Tassie, Managing Counsel, Ford Motor Company and Thomas Norton and Robert Wierenga, senior attorneys at Miller Canfield Paddock and Stone, P.L.C, will cover litigation topics.

The cost of the seminar is $55 for members, $65 for non-members and $35 for students, and includes all sessions, materials and meals.
