This year’s edition of the groundbreaking New Lawyers’ Seminar will take place at the Theodore Levin United States Courthouse in downtown Detroit Dec. 5-6.
The program sessions–taught by judges, practicing attorneys, and other court personnel–help recent law school graduates understand the fundamental procedures governing federal and state courts. Among those scheduled to speak at the two-day event are Bernard A. Friedman, Chief Judge of the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan; U.S. District Judge Patrick Duggan; U.S. District Judge Robert Cleland; and U.S. Magistrate Judge Stephen Whalen.
Attendance is limited to the first 150 registrants. The seminar registration fee, which includes a CD-ROM of course materials and admittance to a Dec. 6 luncheon, is $65 for Federal Bar Association members and $95 for non-members. Attendees can register for the program and enroll in the Federal Bar Association for $140.
In addition to the seminar, a ceremony for those admitted to the State Bar of Michigan and who meet requirements for admission to the bar of the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan will take place at the Levin courthouse on Dec. 5 at 4:15 p.m. The fee for the admitting ceremony is $200, payable to the United States District Court.
