Nomination Period for Appellate Defender Commission Extended to May 4, 2007

The nomination period for the Appellate Defender Commission has been extended to May 4, 2007.  There are two vacancies for four-year terms expiring on April 30, 2011.  Members of this statewide, seven-person Commission are nominated by the State Bar and various courts and appointed by the Governor.  The Commission sets policy for the State Appellate Defender Office and the Michigan Appellate Assigned Counsel System, hires the directors, and reviews and adopts regulations for assigning appellate counsel.  The Commission meets quarterly.
